Plan Ahead for Songkran Festival
Songkran is the Thai New Year celebration as an international scene, people would know it as a Water Fight festival. For Thai, it is the time to celebrate and return to their home towns to see their family and friends. It is annually held across the country during 13-15 April. This year the government officially announced that the national holiday will be from 12-15 April, so watch out for some road closures.
On Songkran days, Thai pays their respect to the elders and water pouring on their palms to ask for their blessings, in Thai we called this ritual as “Rod Nam Dum Hua”.
Water is believed amongst Thai that it helps wash away bad luck and brings positive fresh start to the new year.
To plan ahead, make sure you know that you check the traffic and road closures during the Water Fight Festival, major roads include Silom Road, Siam Square, Ratchaprasong Intersection, Khao San Road and more.
